I'm happy to look over your layout and do some elementary adjustments  -- lining up columns and elements, centering titles, etc., if you would like me to.  There is no cost for this service, but please let me know if you wish me to do this for you.

Layout Assistance and Poster Creation -- what's free and what isn't
Laminated Posters are $9.00 per square foot (printing and lamination combined). Lamination adds UV resistance, providing  protection against fading (similar to using UV inks when printing).  Laminated posters are waterproof.  Please allow an additional day for these posters.
Poster Tubes are available at $5.00 for a 36 inch tube, $6.50 for a 42 inch tube and $7.50 for a 48 inch tube.  Tubes are heavy cardboard (about 1/8" thick--they can be used multiple times) and come with end caps.
Delivery:  Next-business-day delivery is free to University of Minnesota twin cities campuses, the VA Hospital, ST. Kates, HCMC and other areas near (or south of) the University (I drive up 35W and can deliver to locations near the freeway).
I will deliver directly to your office, lab or other campus address.  Delivery/shipment to other locations can be arranged.
Payment information  I provide an invoice with each order. I can be paid with credit cards (Visa/Discover/Mastercard, including University of Minnesota purchasing cards), cash or check.  I am also happy to take University PO's.
I cannot charge a University CUFS account directly (although I can reference one on the invoice). If the University is paying for the poster, you will need to submit the invoice to the appropriate personnel in your department.
Printing prices are based on the size of the poster (measured in square footage) and paper selection. Size is calculated by multiplying length by width in inches, dividing by 144 and rounding up to the nearest foot.
Minimum Charge: There is a minimum charge of $40.00 per order.  At $5.50 per square foot, this is equivalent to about 8 square feet, (i.e., a 32 x 36 inch poster). Jobs can be grouped to achieve the minimum order.
For more extensive layout assistance,  or if I am the one creating your poster, I charge an hourly rate of $50.00/ hour. Examples of this would be reformatting due to a change in the aspect ratio (width-to-height dimensions) or building a layout from submitted materials (text and image files).
Here's how this works: I make my suggestions on a copy of your file. I leave your original file untouched and I will make up a proof of both layouts (you only get charged for one if you want a paper proof.)  Please note that this service does not apply to files submitted in PDF format, which has limited editing capabilities.  These types of adjustments typically take no more than 15-20 minutes.

Proofs can be either PDF or hard-copy.  A hard-copy proof is a flat rate of $7.50. The size will be about 12-16 inches wide (I do not make full-size proofs).  I can also make a PDF proof and send it to you via email attachment.  There is no charge for PDF proofs.

A note on sales tax: Tax-exempt institutions, such as the University of Minnesota, are not required to pay sales tax.  If you are paying for your poster personally (even if you are to be reimbursed by the University later), I am required to collect the tax.
I have two tear-proof poly papers:  Polymatte and Polygloss.  Both are $5.50 per square foot.  They are very durable, and can be hung multiple times. They are not, however, waterproof.  The inks can smear if you get them wet.
Polymatte (actually, more of a satin finish) is the default paper.  It is the one I will use if you do not specify a preference.  It has a less-reflective surface than the polygloss with slightly less contrast and it lays a bit flatter (flatness becomes more an issue the larger the poster). The polygloss is ideal for posters with photos, as the higher contrast and glossy surface make the photos vivid.  (But--for images where shadow detail is critical [confocal, etc.] it may be a good idea to print a swatch first.)
